Are you an association professional who thrives on variety, autonomy, and building high-trust relationships? A prestigious national professional society is seeking a Senior Manager of Association Services to serve as the external Executive Director for two of our state-level managed associations.
In this "dual-impact" role, you will be the face of leadership for two state organizations, providing strategic oversight and day-to-day operational management. You will act as the primary bridge between these state boards and our national headquarters, ensuring that every contractual obligation is met with excellence and a personal touch.
This is a virtual position designed for a self-starter who doesn't need a micromanager to stay on track. The job is a mix of strategy and tactics including everything from high-level board consulting to hands-on event execution. While you lead the state associations, you are backed by the robust resources and specialized departments (Finance, HR, Communications) of our national organization.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Board Governance
Act as the primary staff liaison and "Executive Director" for two state boards and their respective committees.
Foster a culture of accountability and measurable productivity among volunteer leadership.
Facilitate all board and committee meetings, including agenda development, minute-taking, and aggressive follow-through on action items.
Membership & Operations
Direct the full membership lifecycle, from data-driven renewal processing and fulfillment to retention tracking.
Collaborate with the national membership department to tailor recruitment initiatives for the state level.
Deliver monthly "health-of-the-association" reports to volunteer leadership.
Communications & Brand Advocacy
Oversee the "voice" of the state associations across electronic newsletters and social media.
Partner with the national communications team to ensure local messaging aligns with professional standards and member needs.
Educational Programming & Events
Lead the planning and execution of state-level events, including speaker management, contract negotiations, and CEU administration.
Manage the development of online content and webinars, assisting subject matter experts in preparing for delivery.
Financial Stewardship
Maintain oversight of state association budgets and financial health.
Work closely with the national finance team to provide monthly reporting and annual budgets to the boards.
Experience: 6–8 years of experience in association or nonprofit management. Specific experience in chapter relations or managing volunteer-led organizations is highly preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and written skills; you must be comfortable presenting to boards and navigating diverse personalities.
Self-Starter: Proven ability to manage complex projects remotely with minimal supervision.
Technical Proficiency: Knowledgeable about AMS systems, virtual meeting platforms, social media, websites and project management tools.
