Position Overview
The Senior Director of Meetings, Education and Industry Relations (MEIR) is the Senior Leader managing and developing the high-performing team responsible for leading the design and execution of the ACVIM educational and event portfolio, including guiding industry support and fostering corporate relationships that further organizational goals. The Senior Director works with the Board of Regents and other Senior Leaders to co-create meaningful strategy and leads the staff in prioritizing and operationalizing the organization’s scope of work. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, the Senior Director helps to set the tone for staff culture, leading by example and exemplifying the ACVIM’s commitment to our mission, vision and values.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Collaborating with members of the MEIR team to translate and apply organizational strategies into aligned and actionable plans for education, industry sales and event management.
Identify opportunities to innovate the educational portfolio and drive revenue from educational offerings.
Mentor and coach direct reports who lead event oversight, educational programs, and strategic partnerships, offering direct support through subject matter expertise when needed.
Provide strategic insight and guidance to the team leaders who oversee programs within the MEIR Department.
Ensure the legal and financial aspects of the department’s work are sound and consistent with goals and requirements.
Build strategic relationships with key stakeholders to ensure strong collaborative and innovative partnerships
Oversee and manage the MEIR department budget.
Actively participate as a Senior Leadership Team member in prioritizing the work of the ACVIM, leading initiatives in support of staff culture development and ensuring strong communication throughout the organization.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, business or related field.
Experience in management and leadership in not-for-profit environments or equivalent organizations.
Experience managing complex budgets and meeting product goals.
Subject matter expertise in adult education/professional development, event management, and sales strategy/relationship development to support successful implementation of the ACVIM program portfolio.
Strong project management skills and proficiency in managing teams and multiple, conflicting priorities.
Demonstrated ability to build strong, effective working relationships with all levels of staff, members, volunteers and Board members.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in business, education or related field.
Professional certification in a field related to defined responsibilities.
Familiarity with veterinary education or related field
