GENERAL SUMMARY The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) is a non-profit medical professional society of influential scientists, academicians, researchers, clinicians, government representatives, and industry leaders from around the world dedicated to improving cancer patient outcomes by advancing the science and application of cancer immunotherapy. The Director of Development oversees and directs the Development Team of the Society including the coordination of all staff functions associated with the fundraising efforts for both SITC and the SITC Forward Fund. The Director of Development creates the Society’s fundraising strategy and works as part of the team of directors in the overall management of the Society. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, implementation of the Board of Directors and Forward Fund committee goals and objectives as lead by the Strategic Plan; developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan for all facets of the Society’s fundraising efforts; cultivating both corporate partnerships and individual major donors; and creating and leveraging opportunities that can enhance Society’s ability to raise funds.
In concert with the Executive Director and Forward Fund committee, develop and implement components of the Society’s strategic plan that pertain to program financial growth and fund development
Develop a comprehensive fundraising plan that is aimed at both supporting the programs and services of the Society as well as meeting the aims of the Society’s Forward Fund.
Oversee the activities of the Society’s special designated fund, the Forward Fund, including working with the steering committee and developing policies and new campaigns as appropriate
Direct and oversee the efforts of the Development Department including fund procurement, estate/planned giving donations, grant writing, funding reporting, exhibitor relations, funder compliance and benefits administration, Forward Fund donor relations and awards distribution, and annual campaigns to support the Forward Fund
Effectively lead, mentor and oversee the Development team
Support Development Department staff with interdepartmental information exchange pertaining to funder and donor needs, expectations and key deliverables
Effectively collaborate with other Society department staff, including education, marketing, membership, meetings, science and policy, and publications, to ensure compliance with funder LOAs and SITC policies, adhere to planning timelines and share relevant information across departments.
Ensure good relationships with existing society funders and source new revenue streams and funding sources to underwrite the strategic efforts and initiatives of the Society
Identify and develop program expansion/leveraging opportunities aimed at increased funding opportunities
Oversee the development of fund raising-related marketing materials, press releases, online information, special events and other materials as needed.
Oversee and direct the grant development, submission and reporting including grant research, writing, budgeting, compliance and reconciliation
Oversee and direct the support opportunities for the Society initiatives and its educational conferences including exhibit opportunities, advertising and individual item support
Serve as the primary staff liaison to fund raising committees as assigned and provide direction for the creation of agendas, background materials, and minutes as well as decision and action item implementation
Oversee the maintenance of all needed files and systems to track solicitation and other fund raising efforts including individual donor relations (i.e. sponsor database, donor database, donor letters and tax reporting)
Recommend and oversee the development and implementation of systems to ensure maintenance of proposals, agreements, budgets and deliverables
Stay updated on new technologies, best practices, and industry trends to identify innovative strategies and solutions that will drive growth in quality lead generation and funder/donor relations
Monitor current and potential funder news and regularly report findings to Executive leadership
Develop and monitor budgets in areas of responsibilities as well as provide appropriate tracking and trending reports
Provide support for the volunteer solicitors and executive staff for development efforts as needed
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
At least 7 years professional experience in fund development. Skills needed in fundraising, business development, proposal writing, budget planning and management. Ability to forge positive interpersonal relationships with prospects and colleagues.
Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Previous association management experience and familiarity with nonprofit boards of directors a plus
Travel of up to 5-6 weeks per year
Some evening and weekend work may be required
Occasional lifting required
*This position is located in downtown Milwaukee, WI and a minimum of two days onsite in the office (including Wednesday as an all-staff-in-office day) are a requirement of the role.
