Project Management/Program Development
This position is responsible for directing and leading the ACC Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) within the Product Advocacy Team. Focusing mostly on implementing strategy, expanding CPI’s sustainability portfolio, and daily management of the CPI, the Director will staff and manage the CPI Steering Committee including support for policy development, coordination of groups reporting to the CPI Steering Committee, development and execution of the budget, including dues and non-dues revenue, and other work to support advocacy, sustainability, and outreach strategies for both the raw material suppliers and polyurethane product manufacturers themselves. This position supports manufacturers and their value chains in promoting polyurethanes as sustainable solutions to existing and emerging challenges. The position enjoys many opportunities for collaboration with stakeholders and building relationships with allied organizations to advance the members’ agenda. This position reports to the Senior Director, Product Advocacy.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Provides leadership for the organization, strategic development, and daily management of activities and programs.
Represents CPI before a broad range of outside stakeholders to defend, promote, and grow the market for polyurethane products.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop consensus strategies and approaches to complex issues including sustainability within the polyurethanes industry and identifies opportunities to advance sustainability initiatives in the polyurethanes industry.
Identifies connections to other related industry groups as well as discerns and leverages opportunities to develop consensus strategies and approaches to complex issues important to the polyurethane industry.
Acquires and maintains up-to-date working knowledge of issues related to the industry and identifies ways to address emerging issues as well as capitalize on new opportunities to defend, promote, and grow opportunities for polyurethane products.
Leads staff meetings, responds to inquiries from member companies and outside stakeholders, and identifies policies and positions on technical issues important to the industry.
Develops and manages budget and membership issues, identifies suitable consultants and contractors, and manages projects, contracts, and consultants.
Identifies, prioritizes, and attends relevant industry conferences, meetings, and events to promote CPI’s position and the benefits of polyurethane products. Contributes to the development of sessions for the annual CPI conference.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
Eight years of progressively responsible experience in a relevant work environment, including trade association, non-profit, or policy/advocacy organization.
Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment to lead and organize multiple, simultaneous activities and deliver high-quality projects, products, and responses in a timely manner under pressing deadlines.
Ability to work independently on a variety of complex issues while remaining a contributing member of a larger team.
Demonstrated experience in building consensus and balancing competing demands.
Ability to use independent judgment and problem-solving skills.
Ability to design and implement strategy, direction, and plans.
Ability to travel occasionally.
Team-orientation, with willingness to pitch in and help colleagues and allied associations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability and willingness to give presentations to both small and large groups.
Working knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes.
Master’s degree in a related field.
Experience in the chemical, polyurethane, or related industry.
