Job Overview
We seek a dedicated, energetic, & detail-oriented Membership Manager for the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). The ideal candidate thrives in an agile environment and is passionate about developing relationships with people worldwide. The Manager would be responsible for the IALD’s more than 1500 individual members and 80 manufacturer members located in 60 countries around the globe.
The Membership Manager reports to the CEO and is responsible for the operations and success of the IALD + LIRC (corporate manufacturer members) membership base. This is a relationship role that includes developing and maintaining relationships with corporate members, global volunteer committee leaders, and other organizations. While this role is administrative and volunteer management focused, the Manager must be able to design and execute programs that support the IALD’s overall Vision, Mission, and strategies.
The Manager will create and support new initiatives while having a key role in outreach, engagement, and communication with current, prospective, and lapsed members. Primary responsibilities include communicating with members regularly, processing applications, and maintaining membership records.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities Include
The main point of contact for the membership application process and answering questions about membership, eligibility, and the sign-up process.
Plan and implement membership acquisition and retention plans.
Work with the CEO and Board to increase and articulate the international value proposition.
Serve as the membership department liaison with the legal representation, Marketing + Communications, and other team members to ensure accuracy of membership understanding while offering insight and recommendations.
Manage volunteer committees, including scheduling calls, creating agendas, taking meeting minutes, follow-up actions, etc.
Attend and promote the association and membership at conferences, tradeshows, and other events on a regular basis for in-person relationship-building and retention efforts.
Working with the Marketing team to create, review, and evaluate membership communication and promotional material while keeping content fresh and current
Create reports for the Board of Directors
Maintain and assist in the moderation of website community forums.
Serve as the main point of contact for database management
Maintain relationships with allied professions and other industry stakeholders
Other duties include finance admin associated with membership dues payments. Work cooperatively with other staff to coordinate information, execute projects with minimal supervision, and meet deadlines on time and within budget.
Other duties and responsibilities may not be covered in the above list that this role will be asked to carry out.
About you:
The ideal candidate is detail oriented, organized, and an effective communicator with AMS/CRM experience. Data literacy and the ability to maximize technology are key to ensuring efficient membership operations as the association grows. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while working collaboratively with a remote team. Applicants should take a strong sense of pride in their work.
5-7 years experience in association management or related field. International association experience is a plus.
Outstanding organizational and time management skills
Able to prioritize conflicting needs and handle multiple concurrent assignments expeditiously with a successful completion.
Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage a high volume of workload by creating efficient best practices.
Strong self-starter with the ability to self-direct and take ownership of program/service.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including managing challenging situations, working to align volunteers, and ability to demonstrate discretion and confidentiality in sensitive situations
Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with international volunteers and staff members
Creative problem-solving abilities
Understanding or sensitivity to graphic and architectural design
Cooperative team player with the ability to be effective independently
Demonstrates a high level of customer/client service skill
Proficiency in online meeting platforms, iMIS, MS Office, Asana etc.
Ability to learn new database software and platforms
A team player who is willing to work in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred
