The Manager of Marketing and Communications is responsible for four major functional areas:

• General marketing, communications and branding
• Developing content and maintaining the Institute’s website(s), email marketing tool, social media, and other communications technology; including writing copy for emails and other marketing formats
• Supporting sponsorship and advertising relationships and sales
• Coordinating media relations

GENERAL MARKETING RESPONSIBILITIES

• Builds strong relationships internally between Marketing and all other departments to ensure compliance with brand messaging and timely implementation of marketing initiatives.
• Proactively develops, directs, and implements marketing plans for all events, products and services, while ensuring budgetary and branding goals are achieved. These plans may include print, web, social media and other components.
• Manages contracted services from external vendors including design, production, and printing.
• Partners with Membership Department on all membership-related marketing initiatives.
• Coordinates monthly membership e-newsletter, including soliciting content from staff, building content online and distributing newsletter.
• Coordinates bi-weekly Thought Leadership Bulletin e-newsletter, including soliciting content from sponsors, building content online and distributing newsletter.
• Develops templates for use by chapters for marketing programs, membership, etc., and ensures use in the Marketing Automation Program (MAP).

ONLINE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Updates website content as needed.
• Conducts periodic website audits to ensure functionality and currency.
• Coordinates with TEI’s web developer for needed functionality and design updates.
• Maintains social media presence, including regular postings, event promotion, and advocacy announcements.
• Writes, designs, and distributes email communications through TEI’s email tools.
• Oversees TEI’s job board and other ancillary online products.
• Assists with the development of event-related landing and web pages.

SPONSORSHIP & ADVERTISING RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides support to Director of Marketing, Communications & Events for all aspects of sponsorship program, including benefits, invoicing, tracking, and relationship management.
• Coordinates advertising benefits for advertisers in TEI’s magazine, Tax Executive.
• Pursues new advertiser opportunities, enters into advertising contracts, and ensures compliance with space and material deadlines.
• Develops and supports potential sponsorship benefits.

MEDIA RELATIONS

• Maintains list of contacts in tax and financial press.
• Writes and distributes press releases as needed.
• Notifies press of release of advocacy initiatives.
• Receives and coordinates requests for comment with appropriate members of the TEI Legal team.

OTHER

• Works with all TEI departments to ensure the success of the organization.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable with presenting to groups, and the ability to work well with internal and external client groups.
• Must be a highly organized, motivated, and self-starting individual with a proven ability to develop creative ideas and work as part of a team to bring those ideas to fruition.
• Must have strong attention to detail skills and be able to meet deadlines/respond to changing priorities.
• Extensive experience with digital and print publication content creation and editing tools such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience with a CRM and/or AMS (TEI utilizes netFORUM).
• Experience with MailChimp or other email marketing tools. Marketing automation experience a plus.
• Experience managing and monitoring social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc).
• Experience using web content management systems (TEI’s site is hosted in Drupal).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree with 5 – 7 years of marketing experience. Association experience is desired but not required.
