THE ORGANIZATION
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is the largest individual-member organization serving managers, engineers, scientists, and other professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry. SPE is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization with members and operations around the world.
THE ROLE
The Director of Sales is responsible for the development of sales strategies for SPE conferences, exhibitions, sponsorship and digital sales that deliver revenue at or above targets.
The holder of this position is also responsible for the overall organization, planning, and management of the SPE Americas sales team.
THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Achieve individual and team’s sales targets across all designated American SPE conferences and events, as well as global digital products
- Reporting directly to the VP of Sales and Marketing, assist in setting sales targets
- Plan and execute the sales campaigns and strategies for conferences, exhibitions and digital products
- Develop, nurture and maintain commercial relationships at the highest level within key client organizations
- Work closely with Events, Virtual Programs, Marketing and Editorial staff to develop and finalize sales contracts. Ensure that agreed products and services are delivered appropriately per contract
- Manage and mentor sales staff providing clear direction, appropriate training and support to ensure highest levels of performance. Complete periodic and ongoing review of sales staff and achievement against targets.
- Measure and communicate sales achievements using CRM and weekly/monthly reports

THE DESIRED TALENTS
- Considerable experience of selling and managing in the exhibition and sponsorship space, as well as the digital sales space.
- Strong understanding of digital publishing, interactive media and other digital information and emerging communication technologies.
- Significant understanding of digital metrics such as CPM, CPT and overseeing the management of Google Ad Manager
- Working knowledge of A2Z and managing the link with operations to deliver a seamless client experience
- Substantial experience in international meetings, publishing, association management or other relevant businesses
- 7-10 years’ experience in managing a senior sales team and delivering revenues in excess of $25m per annum from exhibits and digital sales
- Background and experience in the Oil and Gas industry (preferred)
- BA/BSc degree, or other suitable equivalent qualifications
