The Biomedical Engineering Society is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, and innovative professional for the role of Senior Communications Manager. The position, reporting to the Managing Director, will be responsible for developing and executing communication and marketing plans and creating and maintaining a dynamic traditional and online presence for the society. With a staff of 9, you will have the opportunity to execute creatively, work on initiatives from strategic to tactical and broaden your knowledge of the exciting field of biomedical engineering.

The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) was established in 1968 and has grown to approximately 6,000 members (including over 4,000 student members) and more than 140 student chapters

This is an exempt position; salary commiserate with experience. The office is located in Landover, MD. Currently working remotely due to Covid-19. Flexible remote working options will be available but there is expectation to travel at least weekly to physical office in 2021.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university
  • 5+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience executing across several communications media
  • Strong written communication skills, required
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, required
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, preferred
  • Good entrepreneurial work ethic

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development of communication plans to broaden awareness of BMES and strengthen BMES’s brand identity across key stakeholder audiences.
  • Develop membership acquisition and retention campaigns
  • Works collaboratively with staff to develop communication and marketing plans that align with the annual marketing strategy and department initiatives.
  • Works with journal editors to promote projects and articles.
  • Provides communications support including assistance in writing speeches, columns and creating PowerPoint presentations.
  • Researches, writes, and edits content for website, email communications and newsletters.
  • Communicates proactively with constituency groups to maintain site content relevant to their needs.
  • Maintains company social networking sites and presence on various platforms including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Creates, runs, and analyzes member and meeting surveys.
  • Responsible to produce printed materials including flyers, prospectus', and reports.
  • Responsible for managing annual meeting specific duties including the daily newsletter, call for award nominations, writing scripts, promoting special events, and working with sponsors.
  • Promoting journal special events and projects, promoting journal articles, working with journal editors on social media and supporting publisher and editors.
  • Provides web support to Council of Chairs, listserv support, and marketing for BMES special interest groups (SIGs) including the Publications Board, Public Affairs Committee, and ABET.
