Compromised of a network of state and regional affiliates, our members are responsible for the more than four-million workers in special districts, federal, state and local governments. The executive director for the National PELRA will possess strategic vision along with a grassroots grit to oversee the daily association tasks and needs. The ultimate champion for expanding membership and shaping the organization, the director shall enhance and grow the education for the membership and possess a detail-oriented skillset to lead and/or support the planning of monthly and annual training opportunities. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of public sector HR/LR, legal advocacy, and communication tools. Further, they should have experience with an association, or serve as a manager in the public sector, with strong management skills, be collaborative, innovative, and positively serve as the association’s trusted spokesperson to a variety of constituencies with varying needs. Demonstrated skills with multiple disciplines (executive, legislative, HR, labor, budget, etc.) is strongly preferred.
The National PELRA is embracing the digital economy and the next director shall telework so long as they have the ability to fully support the commitments of the organization. The ability to actively engage staff, members, sponsors, and the Board of Directors through various software solutions, with the aptitude to operate these solutions smoothly and professionally is required. Additionally, they should be within approximately an hour of a mid-to-major airport to effectively travel as needed for National PELRA obligations.
The National PELRA Board of Directors is a working group of volunteers that will empower the next executive director to independently fulfill the annual goals with professional efficiency, detail-oriented, member-focused aptitude, which is responsive and respectful to the various needs of the organization. The challenging demands of the public sector continue to change, and the executive director will have the vision and strategic thinking to adapt and grow the association, the technical and professional skills to meet the day-to-day responsibilities of the association, along with a passion to enrich the professional growth of the members.
Interested candidates shall submit a cover letter detailing their interest in becoming the next executive director for National PELRA. Submissions shall also include a resume, three or more professional references, at least two writing samples that demonstrate the work product that can be expected and any other documentation or certifications that would support the application. Bachelor’s degree in business or governmental management preferred, relevant experience, certifications, or other advanced degrees will be considered. Job posting will remain open until filled; qualified candidates will be reviewed on a rolling basis including application review, phone or virtual screening(s) and Board interview(s). A competitive total compensation package of $120,000 (DOQ) will be offered, which includes an employment agreement outlining such areas as telework, retirement and health benefits.
