The Director of Marketing and Communications will join the NCTE leadership team and guide the internal Marketing, Communications, and Membership functions to align and deliver on the strategic goals of the organization. This leader will work cross-functionally to ensure that messaging and brand position is consistent across all functions and channels. This role is an opportunity to advance NCTE’s mission, execute strategic communications, and identify and manage critical and emerging policy or member issues.
Specific responsibilities include:
Strategically lead NCTE’s internal team for communications, marketing, and membership, including but not limited to goal setting and performance management of individual team members.
Lead NCTE’s membership marketing program, ensuring there is a 24-month plan in place to sustain current members (renew) and grow new members while staying responsive to market conditions.
Managing vendor relationships in order to derive the highest value while maintaining costs.
Lead NCTE’s marketing/communications program, ensuring consistent and effective messaging, continuous analysis of ROI, and retooling accordingly. This is across all NCTE efforts, including products, events, membership, and potential thought leaders – both direct to consumer as well as B2B.
Create outbound communications, corresponding to an annual plan, to raise NCTE’s profile and communicate NCTE’s priorities, program investments, and contributions to literacy education.
Interpret and apply web, email, and customer behavior metrics to grow NCTE’s business.
Lead NCTE’s social media, advertising, and email campaigns to grow NCTE’s audience and our owned and earned media.
Lead, support, and collaborate with the team in content creation and planning to best leverage all platforms (e-newsletter, member magazine, social media, and blogs).
The Director of Marketing and Communications will encompass the following qualifications:
Strong written, analytical, and oral communication skills, including ability to distill complex issues into compelling communications
Ability to execute independently and as a member of a team
Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs
Self-reliant, good problem solver, results oriented
Ability to meet deadlines without sacrificing quality
Digital marketing experience (paid and organic)
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communication, or related discipline
MBA or advanced communication-related degree strongly preferred but not required
Trade or professional association, especially an education association, in addition to private sector experience preferred
Telecommuting is allowed.
