The Vice President, Quality Care & Research provides strategic oversight and collaborative leadership for PHA’s medical and patient education, quality care and research programs. The Vice President, Quality Care & Research will initiate and oversee activities to engage physicians, researchers and other healthcare professionals in development and implementation of programs, services and resources that advance PHA’s mission through the key focus areas of the organization’s Board of Trustees-approved strategic plan, which include: promoting quality patient care, catalyzing research for a cure and empowering patients and caregivers. The Vice President manages a team of program managers, serves on PHA’s executive team and reports to the President & CEO.
The Quality Care & Research department leads in the development and implementation of PHA’s medically focused programming, including, but not limited to: the PHA/Pulmonary Hypertension Care Centers, Inc. (PHCC, Inc.) accreditation program, PHA’s research portfolio strategy – including the Pulmonary Hypertension Association Registry (PHAR), patient and continuing medical education programs, as well as print and digital resources, and Advances in Pulmonary Hypertension digital journal. The department establishes and/or nurtures partnerships and relationships with outside organizations (professional societies, academic medical centers, government agencies, industry, etc.), PHA’s healthcare membership programs (Pulmonary Hypertension Clinicians and Researchers (PHCR), Pulmonary Hypertension Professional Network (PHPN)), and works collaboratively with other departments in developing patient educational events, print and digital resources. The department collaborates with and supports other departments to build relationships and opportunities to secure sponsorships, service fees, grants (foundation and government), and philanthropic and dues funding. As appropriate, the department will lead in these efforts and engage other departments for input and support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate on cross-functional projects with program and service departments to develop or support the development of patient education resources, including live events, and print and digital resources to meet current and evolving needs of the patient and caregiver community.
Oversee the strategy for and lead the expansion, growth, enhancement and implementation of PHA/PHCC, Inc.’s accreditation program by attracting new centers, retaining existing centers through reaccreditation, refining accreditation criteria, providing program marketing support to Pulmonary Hypertension Care Centers (PHCCs) and building a sense of community among PHCCs.
Lead the expansion, growth, enhancement and implementation of PHA/PHCC Inc.’s PHAR through initiating and increasing site enrollment and retention, refining protocols and overseeing data management, creating relevant reporting and monetizing the program.
Manage PHA’s research portfolio strategy including: overseeing grants, PHA’s International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions’ Research Room, PHAR, etc., educating patients about and encouraging their participation in PH clinical trials and updating the PH community about research and trial developments and results.
Provide scientific consultation cross-departmentally, offering technical expertise, providing scientific review of communications, marketing and informational messages and materials and/or providing connections to, resources and information from PHA’s medical community members.
Collaborate with and support other departments to build relationships and opportunities to secure sponsorships, service fees, grants (foundation and government), and philanthropic and dues funding. As appropriate, lead in these efforts and engage other departments for input and support.
Publish quarterly digital editions of PHA’s Advances in Pulmonary Hypertension
Identify PH medical education opportunities, create educational content and produce credit-bearing continuing education resources through live, instructor led, print and digital education. Conduct program evaluation and provide reporting of progress and observations.
Oversee management of PHA’s healthcare volunteer committees including the Scientific Leadership Council (SLC), PHCR, and PHPN executive committee, PHCC, Inc. committees, and other healthcare and research programmatic committees.
Supervise the day-to-day activities of PHA’s Quality Care & Research department, including budgeting, planning, goal setting and staff development.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree in healthcare, scientific or related field strongly preferred; equivalent experience may be substituted for advanced degree.
Minimum of 7 – 10 years of experience in a nonprofit, association or mission driven for profit organization within a healthcare/disease related environment.
At least 5 years of management experience, including program planning, budgeting, cross-departmental collaboration and staff management and development.
Demonstrated strong management skills, including experience successfully leading a diverse team of individuals administering a broad range of medical, research and educational programs.
Strategic thinker, with experience working in a complex environment, balancing competing demands and priorities, and the ability to discern when to lead versus when to support initiatives to obtain the best results.
Ability to work collaboratively and build trust, confidence and consensus around ideas with medical, research and healthcare leaders, professional societies, donors and funders, industry representatives, patients and caregivers, government agencies and colleagues.
Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills, including the ability to create strong digital and print visual aids and communicate to both technical and lay audiences.
Strong understanding of medical, research and quality of care concepts, processes and environments.
Ability to interpret scientific, technical and/or clinical research papers and their methodologies and results, translating these findings into news and educational resources for both healthcare providers and patient/caregiver constituents.
Working knowledge of continuing education processes and adult learning concepts a plus.
