The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) is seeking a Marketing & Communications Manager. NCBDE is a national certifying body that oversees a certification program for health professionals who work in the field of diabetes education & care. Almost 20,000 individuals currently hold active certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE).
This position is new to the organization – and will increase the number of members on the ‘small but mighty’ NCBDE team to 6 people. This role is a great opportunity to have a significant impact on the success of an organization.
The position has a major emphasis on marketing and communication efforts to all stakeholders, including brand communication and strategies, digital marketing strategies, coordination of a grassroots program to promote certification, and exhibit/event related-support. The individual will work with NCBDE's outreach consultant and fellow staff members in the following areas:
For communication and strategy activities that advance the organization and certification-related brands - development, implementation and assessment of strategies and tactics in collaboration with NCBDE’s outreach consultant, staff, and thought leaders addressing all the different audiences needed to address strategic priorities, includes creation of consistent messaging across audiences; implementation of email marketing campaigns newsletters, and public policy updates; and identification of content strategy and development of content.
For digital marketing related activities - development, implementation and assessment of strategies and tactics in collaboration with NCBDE’s outreach consultant, staff, and thought leaders. Aspects include: management of campaigns to potential certificants and current certificants, e.g., include creation of landing pages for content offerings, lead generation; creation, management, and optimization of search engine marketing strategies, including Google Adwords, as well as identifying policies and procedures for maintenance of SEO best practices; management of email marketing and workflows within constant contact (or other automation platform); creation of strategies for NCBDE social media accounts, as well as posting and monitoring as required; investigation of strategies for paid social media, including boosted posts and evaluation of other opportunities for growth and engagement; creation of reports from Google Analytics and other platforms to assess outreach ROI; communication of trends or areas of improvement.
For exhibits/events - creation and execution of exhibit/event marketing plans, including social media campaigns, to promote to NCBDE’s participation in industry-related exhibits and events and staffing of exhibit booths/events for several events each year (travel and weekend work may be required).
For website related activities - development of content strategy that ensures formatting and voice consistency across pages; creation and revision of site content, in collaboration with staff; creation of policies and procedures to support digital best practices; creation of reports to assess website health.
For Ambassador program - Management of the launch of this grassroots program, including development of the application and promotional activities announcing the launch; coordination of orientation activities and onboarding process for new Ambassadors; management of ongoing aspects of the program, including collaboration with the Outreach Committee and staff on revisions to the presentations and other supporting documents and files, processing applications for new Ambassadors, promotion of the program, communication with Ambassadors, maintenance of the current list/file/database of Ambassadors, coordination of follow up activities after presentations, e.g., lead follow up, and provision of reports on program activities, as well as other duties related to administration of the program.
Being a small office, this position will also serve as a back-up team member for customer service related activities and office roles as needed, e.g., responding to inquiries about the certification program, processing requests for handbooks, etc.

Qualifications and Requirements:
BS/BA degree in marketing/communications or related field or at least 4 years of relevant professional experience.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience with 3 to 5 years of related experience in marketing or communications preferred.
Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills and a proven eye for detail, completeness, and accuracy
Previous work for a certifying body or association and/or not for profit work a plus.
Strong ability to participate as a team player.
Strong communication, planning and organizational skills.
Initiative, accuracy, and attention to details.
Ability to handle concurrent assignments and to work independently. Previous work experience in project management a plus.
Enjoy working in a small office environment (less than 10 people)
Ability to travel and work weekends as needed.

Content updates – beginning to intermediate proficiency, e.g., experience adding and revising content of a web site. Familiarity with HTML, but technologically flexible to work with a variety of platforms.
Google Analytics – intermediate proficiency.
Overall – understanding of general file layout in a network, concept of saving into particular folders, etc.
Word – intermediate level of proficiency – e.g., ability to create merge letters, forms, labels and merge with data from a variety of sources, ability to create fairly complicated forms, etc.
Excel –intermediate level of proficiency – development and maintenance of spreadsheets; charts and graph creation.
Powerpoint – beginning proficiency, e.g., creation of and revision to presentations.
Outlook – beginner proficiency. Ability to enter tasks, projects, appointments.

Database – beginning proficiency, e.g., experience in entering/updating database records, preparing simple reports, etc. Association management software experience preferred.
