The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is seeking a Government Affairs Associate to work in our Legislative, Regulatory and Scientific Affairs Division. This individual will play a critical role in advocating on the issues that affect the Society’s members and their patients.
The ideal candidate will be able to analyze and influence policy proposals at the state and federal levels. This position will assist with executing ASPS policy tracking, analysis and drafting of comments; provides recommendations on organizational responses to key issues; leads the operational work of ASPS grassroots initiatives, including the operations of PlastyPAC, web-based communications, the ASPS Summit, advocacy publications, and the State Partnership Program
Knowledge of state and federal legislative and regulatory processes
Strong policy research and writing skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, organization, and political skills.
Excellent computer skills
Experience in health/medical association management, health care delivery, and/or third-party reimbursement a plus.
Travel is a requirement for this position
Education: Bachelor Degree in political science, public policy, health administration, or health related field. Advanced degree in related field desired.
Experience: Two to three years direct experience in any or all of the following:
Working in a policy position for an elected official
Lobbying at the state or federal level;
Monitoring state/federal legislative and regulatory issues; and
Developing advocacy programs with state, local or specialty organizations
Health/medical association management, health care delivery, and/or third-party reimbursement
