The Vice President and Chief of Staff works in close partnership with the President and CEO to ensure that AACTE is meeting the evolving needs of its members, is financially healthy with diverse streams of revenue, and is functioning effectively as a member-governed organization. The Vice President and Chief of Staff oversees strategic planning and manages ongoing oversight of progress on strategic priorities; identifies and develops sources of non-dues revenue from new service lines, individual gifts, and foundation grants; and manages association governance, research initiatives, and executive communication. The Vice President and Chief of Staff leads the AACTE National Office while the President/CEO is on travel and directly oversees the office’s internal operations.
Serves as AACTE lead on strategic planning and as primary liaison to strategic planning consultant. Establishes and coordinates work of strategic planning committees and sub-committees as necessary and manages outreach to members and other stakeholders regarding the strategic plan. Manages ongoing oversight of progress on strategic priorities, including regular staff reporting and reports to the AACTE executive committee and board of directors.
Leads strategic team in identifying and developing revenue-generating products, programs and services. Manages and facilitates all partnerships, representing the President/CEO in the development of strategic relationships. Develops individual donor campaigns, including annual and planned giving initiatives. Identifies potential corporate or foundation partners and works with the President/CEO on the development and stewardship of those relationships. Identifies grant opportunities in collaboration with the Strategic Team and secures grant funding.
Manages AACTE’s governance process with the CEO. Works with the Executive Assistant to the President/CEO who maintains board communications and board minutes. Authors quarterly reports of the CEO to the board to accompany the association dashboard and the quarterly progress reports. Establishes agendas for the executive committee and the board of directors meetings in consultation with the President/CEO and board chair. Engages in continuous review of all AACTE bylaws and governance reviews and is the primary liaison to legal counsel as needed. Represents the President/CEO to the various board committees, etc. as necessary. Plans all board-related activities.
Develop a research and publication agenda for AACTE as part of the strategic planning process that is aligned to AACTE’s strategic priorities. Conducts, supervises and commissions research as specified in the research agenda. In collaboration with the MarComm team, disseminates research findings through print and online publications, media releases, webinars, blogs and other means. Develops and implements a doctoral internship program that provides education Ph.D. and Ed.D. students with valuable professional development experiences and builds research capacity within AACTE; supervises doctoral research interns. Develops a core consulting practice for content-matter experts to provide technical assistance to member institutions.
Manages all executive-level communications to the organization, including drafting President/CEO communications to the full staff and the strategic team. Assists the President/CEO in creating opportunities for staff engagement and facilitating ways to maintain open communication. Coordinates agendas for all-staff, strategic team, and senior team meetings. Manages CEO communications to external stakeholders, including phone and email responses as necessary. Works with executive assistant to produce annotated schedules for association events (annual meetings, QSW, Leadership Academy, Washington Week, etc.) for the President/CEO. Facilitates CEO outreach to members on a regular basis in collaboration with the director of marketing & communications and the MARCOMM team.
President’s Office Management
Works with the Executive Assistant to the President/CEO to ensure smooth workflow. Acts as a trusted confidante on all matters of importance to the President/CEO. Assists with engaging legal counsel as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the President/CEO on an as-needed basis for the advancement of AACTE.
Occasional travel to represent the President/CEO is required on as as-needed basis.
The Vice President and Chief of Staff will have oversight and management in conjunction with the President/CEO for the Executive Assistant to the President/CEO position. Also, lead cross-functional teams inside the AACTE National Office.
Terminal degree (PhD, EdD, PsyD) in education required.
At least 15 years of progressively responsible positions in education associations. Understanding of educator preparation in the higher education and PK-12 sectors.
