The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) is the national professional organization for doctors of podiatric medicine. We are located in Bethesda, MD, and have more than 12,000 members across the US and Puerto Rico. We are seeking a dynamic self-starter to lead all aspects of our fundraising activities, including major corporate and individual gift solicitations.
As the premier organization for doctors of podiatric medicine, APMA has a $13 million+ annual budget, of which approximately $2.3 million is generated from corporate support. Along with being responsible for the corporate development for APMA, the Director of Development and Corporate Relations is responsible for strategically positioning the national fundraising effort for growth of APMA’s 501 [c] educational foundation that currently maintains an $8 million endowment used to fund student scholarships.

The selected candidate will be expected to identify new funding sources and expand and maintain relationships with existing corporate sponsors. He/she will work closely with volunteer board leaders and staff fund raisers to coordinate, train, and be involved in the fundraising effort. He/she will work closely with CEOs or other high level corporate representatives. The individual will maintain working knowledge of all APMA activities to raise funds for critical projects. Communication and good listening skills are critical to the position. Qualifications include degree plus minimum of five years of corporate relations and fundraising experience. Proven track record required. Experience in health-related fundraising activities desirable. Candidates should be creative, articulate, and able to manage multiple projects and initiate new ones.

Established in 1912, the American Podiatric Medical Association is the premier professional organization representing the nation’s Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (podiatrists). The APMA represents a majority of the estimated 15,000 podiatrists in the country. Within APMA’s umbrella of organizations are 53 component societies in states and other jurisdictions, as well as 11 affiliated and related societies. Doctors of Podiatric Medicine are physicians and surgeons who practice on the lower extremities, primarily on feet and ankles. The preparatory education of most DPMs includes four years of undergraduate work, followed by four years in an accredited podiatric medical school, followed by a residency.
