The Director is responsible for overseeing the operations of NAA’s Association Resources group. The position will be critical in the development and implementation of plans to achieve overall growth, engagement, and satisfaction of Association Executives and their volunteer leadership. Responsible for providing organization-wide strategy to develop and implement programs which strengthen the operational effectiveness of state and local affiliates and their relationship with NAA. Oversees the development and implementation of related budgets, programs and services.
This position will lead the strategy and recommend changes to increase leadership effectiveness, organizational effectiveness, and productivity of NAA state and local affiliates. In all cases, this role will act as a key influencer and connector among multiple entities including Association Executives, elected leadership, and other industry/ supplier partners. Through collaboration with other NAA staff, the Director of Association Resources will serve as the primary conduit for best practices and shared knowledge among the diverse network of NAA affiliates.
Drives and supports strategy, development, execution for planning and further development of a robust menu of services for state and local associations. Work to infuse NAA’s goal of a Stakeholder Oriented Culture through the programs and services offered to the affiliate network.
Develops and draws upon an understanding of the needs of NAA stakeholders to contribute to strategic discussions to meet their unique needs.
Develops and fosters effective partnership relationships and communication with affiliate leadership through proactive relationship management.
Develops content and process methods in the areas of strategy and business planning, ensuring they are current, valued and meet the needs and expectations of state and local associations.
Maintains in-depth knowledge of industry trends and drives the process of identifying new and emerging work to support the collective growth and development of state and local associations.
Develop and enhance programs that will enhance the professional and leadership expertise of Association Executives. This includes the planning of Association Executive conferences and networking events.
Act as a liaison between State Association Executives and other stakeholder groups ensuring awareness of initiatives and alignment of goals.
Provide benchmarking opportunities to evaluate Association Resources programs and services.
Provide leadership and consulting support to Association Executives on matters relating to membership growth, program expansion, business planning, NAA resources, leadership development to identify learning and development gaps and solutions.
Develop, plan, coordinate and communicate mentoring, learning and career development programs identified as a need.
Develops and manages budget for the Member and Affiliate Relations Division; applies technologies, operations and processes to optimize resources and maximize results.
Develop a comprehensive business plan to offer association management services to the applicable entities within NAA network.
Experience in membership-driven trade or professional association, or national non-profit organization
Requires 7 or more years’ experience leading or consulting in corporate environments and/or complex multi-site organizations
Experience with supervision of remote employees
Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time
Extensive background developing and delivering strategic solutions in core service areas
Strong interpersonal, verbal/written communication and presentation skills
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Must possess a proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with individuals across a broad range of stakeholders
Hands on experience in managing and understanding the complexities of state and local trade/ industry associations; and ability to provide resources to affiliates in support of their work in challenging settings.
